Tallon welcomes €493,222 energy efficiency grant for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown council homes
Issued : Tuesday 18 February, 2014
Labour Councillor Grace Tallon has welcomed news that €493,222 is to be spent on improving the energy efficiency of local authority houses across the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council area.
“Investment in energy efficiency makes sense – it makes houses warmer and can reduce the cost of heating. Thanks to Labour Minister Jan O’Sullivan €30 million is being spent nationwide and I am delighted that families and older people who live in local authority homes in this area, will benefit to such an extent.
“The scheme which has been divided into two phases, the first which is already underway, has seen 757 of houses in benefiting from cavity wall, draught proofing and attic insulation. The next stage will see more intensive insulation like replacing poor performing windows and doors.
“This common sense spending decision will see not just 25,000 of the poorest insulated local authority homes across Ireland improved, but also support hundreds of jobs in its provision.
“Last year, more than 13,000 houses nationally benefitted from this energy efficiency measure, exceeding Minister O’Sullivan’s original target of 5,000 and I am delighted that we are to be provided with this further funding for 2014.”
