On 8th December, we are bringing a Bill to the Dáil aimed at tackling the serious shortage in housing supply in Ireland and ensuring a stable and functioning housing market.
The housing figures that have come out this year are shocking:
- Daft.ie have revealed that rents have soared by 11.7% in the last 12 months.
- Census 2016 has shown us that there are over 198,000 properties lying empty across Ireland.
We want the Dáil to act now on housing. We want to take the pressure off renters by linking rent to the Consumer Price Index. We want to implement the recommendations of the Kenny report on land value. And we want to limit the profits that vulture funds are extracting from the Irish property market.
