Bray, Enniskerry, Kilmacanague

A native of Bray, I have seen our area flourish and also at times struggle. We are a fantastic community with many great assets and amenities. I am passionate about our local community and passionate about social justice. When I was asked to stand as a candidate for Wicklow County Council I immediately knew I wanted to contribute the best that I can to our local area.

I currently work locally in Sunbeam House Services supporting people with intellectual disabilities. I have always been an active member of our community in Bray and the wider community, working and volunteering on the many causes that are important to me.

My Priorities for the local area of Bray, Enniskerry and Kilmacanogue are:

  • Affordable and Social Housing
    • As a priority, I will fight to ensure increased construc tion of good quality housing to meet housing need and to use well-planned social and affordable housing to revitalise the town core
  • Local Democracy
    • The establishment of a new Bray Town Council with powers in planning, housing and environmental services. The failed experiment of centralising powers at Wicklow County Council must be reversed.
    • Citizens in Bray Municipal District to be involved in decision making of Wicklow County Council  Budgets
  • Protection of The Environment
    • As a seaside town with fine natural assets, Bray needs a specific plan of ac tion to combat Climate Change by
      • Assisting local households to manage their carbon emissions.
      • Encouraging public transport and provide for pedestrians and cyclists
      • Effectively managing car parking & traffic to get the town moving.
      • Focusing on relocation of employment into Bray to reduce commuter travel.
      • Protection of the Harbour from storm damage and development of its use for leisure purposes.
  • Decent public amenities
    • High speed Broadband for all local areas ensuring that rural areas do not get overlooked
    • Retention of the current bus services to Enniskerry and Kilmacanogue while exploring options for new rural transport links.
    • The provision of high quality quality public transport for all of Bray

My vision for Bray is

  • An Arts Town: Bray has a thriving creative community in the arts and by encouragement and good planning we can provide access to the arts to all our citzens.
  • A Green Town – I commit to the preparation of a new County Wicklow Biodiversity Plan and to Bray joining the Global Covenant on Climate Change.
  • An Inclusive Town – by ensuring that playgrounds and sports facilites are provided to the most environmentally-friendly and accessible standards, safe access to schools and sufficient childcare places are provided. The provision of free WIFI in Bray town centre. To promote initiatives to ensure Bray is a child, disability and age-friendly town.
  • An Active Town – by supporting current sports and leisure facilities, and working with stakeholders in the development of sports facilities in Old Fassaroe lands. The protection of public rights-of-way for walking.
  • An Integrated Town – by welcoming visitors and new residents alike. People of different nationalities bring a rich cultural diversity to Bray. Diversity should be celebrated in cultural and festive ways. I will support integration projects.
