Jack's Vision for building a better future:

I am optimistic for the future of Waterford and the South East Region given our natural advantages. But to maximise the benefits these opportunities give us we need to work in partnership with all the other major players in our region be they political, business, trade union or community.

We must reduce unemployment to at least the national average rate. We must forcibly engage with national government and state job creation agencies to directly companies to locate in Waterford and the South East. They can provide advance factories for example to make the region more attractive.

We must have a fully fledged University in the region meeting the business, research, community and social needs of the area.

We must have investment in infrastructure such as housing, urban development, roads, airport, sea port and hospital.

We must enhance our tourist offering by developing Mount Congreve and our wonderful greenway from Waterford to Dungarvan. We must exploit the potential of our coastal communities to enhanced visitor experience by supporting the creation of small enterprises in our villages and farms.

We must expand and upgrade our Childcare services to enable parents and children have the best possible options available to meet their family needs.

We must have a vibrant and well funded Arts community to reflect our aspiration to be a modern civil society. Actively challenging us to reflect on social issues to provide a fun place where young people can grow, be nourished and recognised by the community.

We must recognise the importance of sport in the community by providing the best possible facilities and supporting sporting organisations.

We must cherish and value our environment and recognise the contribution it makes to our own wellbeing and enjoyment.

What I guarantee is to work with all organisations and individuals who are interested in making a positive contribution to Waterford and its people.
