Unaminous Support fo motion on St. Patrick's Hospital extension

I am delighted that the members of Waterford City Council unanimously supported my motion “That Waterford City Council calls on the Government to put in place the necessary Capital Funding to allow the H.S.E. provide the 100 bed Community Residential Care Unit at St. Patrick’s Hospital, Waterford as a matter of urgency”.

It is very important that a design team is being appointed to progress the project with the objective of having the construction work ready to start in early 2015.

I also welcome the fact that a 100 bed unit is being planned rather than the 50 bed unit originally promised. However I must stressed how important it is that the funding is put in place to enable the work to start.

I do welcome the assurance, announced by the Mayor, that Minister Reilly has given to the ring fencing of the finance for St. Patrick’s.

 The Labour Party in Waterford has lobbied constantly for this important addition to the Residential Care facilities for our Community.
