My name is Jamie Dowling and I am the Local Area Representative for the Labour Party in the Arklow Municipal District, County Wicklow.

The Arklow Municipal District covers a wide geographical area in the east of Co. Wicklow, including the town of Arklow and villages such as Rathdrum, Avoca, Aughrim, Redcross, Annacurra and Glenmalure.

My relationship with the Labour Party goes back to the 1980s when I would accompany my Dad to many of Barry Desmond’s clinics.  And again in the 1990s when we both canvassed for Eamonn Gilmore.

Those were different times.

Today we face challenges from all directions. Now more than ever we need to come together as a community. With a bit of hard work and determination, we can shape and rebuild.

Together we can do this.

In order to tackle these new challenges it is essential we look after our mental health. We can do this by supporting and developing existing and emerging sports. By creating or improving recreational facilities for both young and old. We cannot underestimate how keeping active either through sport or other recreational activities keeps us healthy and focused.

Small businesses are the lifeblood of a community. It is imperative we support them. Even one medium-sized employer can transform work opportunities in a rural town, and several of them can provide a hub of economic activity. Tourism and its development also plays a pivotal role in the Arklow Municipal district and its future growth is essential.

We can achieve real change by coming together as a community and supporting those that are in need. We need to focus on delivering solutions rather than finding problems.

Together we can do this.

If you have an issue or an area of concern you would like to discuss with me, I am available at the contact details on this page.
