Lucan Labour Representatives to raise future of St. Edmundsbury with Government
Issued : Tuesday 3 September, 2013
Local Labour councillors Cllr. Catiriona Jones, Cllr. Eamon Tuffy and Joanna Tuffy TD are to raise the future of St.Edmundsbury in the Council and the Dail. Very important will be the need to ensure the lands current zoning a are maintained. The land currently has a zoning of "I" which is "to protect and enhance the outstanding character and amenity of the Liffey Valley and to preserve its strategic importance as a green bank between urban settlement area". The local Labour representatives, Deputy Tuffy, Cllr. Jones and Cllr. Tuffy are committed to working with all local representatives and the local community to ensure that there are no changes to the zoning. The current zoning follows years of work by local residents, groups and elected representatives from all parties to protect this land for future generations as an environmental amenity because of its location at the Liffey Valley. There have been several attempts to zone this land for housing that have been defeated thanks to politicians and local activists working together. Labour with its large number of councillors in recent elections has continued it's role of preventing motions to rezone lands at St. Edmundsbury for housing. Cllr Jones and Tuffy are also going to raise the possibility of the lands being brought into public ownership at the Council and Deputy Joanna Tuffy will raise the same issues in the Dail.
