GOLD STANDARD FOR IRISH APPRENTICES - TUFFY

Labour TD, Joanna Tuffy has congratulated the Irish team who did exceptionally well at the Worldskills competition in Brazil over the weekend.
“Gold Medals were won by Alina Síle in Restaurant Service and Ros Wynne in Aircraft Maintenance. This is the fourth consecutive year that Ireland has won gold in Aircraft Maintenance.
“Overall Ireland ranked 11th place out of 60 countries. In total 8 medallions of excellence were awarded for the following skills: Beauty Therapy; Electrical Installation; Joinery; Cabinet Making: Automobile Technology; Plumbing; Plastering and Dry Wall; and Construction Metal Work.
“Such achievements further highlight the important work being done by Minister Jan O’Sullivan to rejuvenate Ireland’s apprenticeship system.
“Labour is introducing 21st Century Apprenticeships to offer new career options across diverse trades and sectors - ICT, medical devices, hospitality and manufacturing sectors.
“Thanks to Labour, the number of people taking up apprenticeships has doubled over the last year.
“Furthermore, new apprenticeships will provide quality professional training and career path for a new generation of job seekers.”
