DUBLIN MID WEST SCHOOLS GET BOOST IN NEW SCHOOL CAPITAL PLAN - TUFFY
Issued : Tuesday 17 November, 2015
12 major school investment projects in Dublin Mid West have been given the green light by the new School Buildings Plan announced today.
Welcoming the news, Joanna Tuffy TD said: “I am extremely pleased that Dublin Mid West has featured so strongly in the much-anticipated School Capital Plan today, and that Minister Jan O'Sullivan has prioritised a number of critical projects.
"As a local Labour TD, I have been tirelessly working with Minister O'Sullivan on behalf of schools in the community, highlighting the need for greater investment and better education infrastructure for Dublin Mid West which has such a high proportion of children of school going age. Therefore I'm glad to see good news emerge for the locality today because I know it will vastly benefit the community. This follows the completion and opening of several new schools and extensions in the constituency under the 2011 to 2015 School Building Programme. I commend the local school Principals, staff, parents and Boards of Management who have worked hard to get these extensions and buildings for their pupils.
The 12 Schools are listed below and include the Divine Mercy Junior and Senior National Schools as well as St. Thomas Junior National School in Esker and Scoil Aine Senior National School in Esker. Prefabs in those four schools will be replaced by permanent school buildings and all of these building projects will Proceed to Construction in 2016. Gaelscoil Na Camoige in Clondalkin gets the go ahead for a permanent school building with it proceeding to construction in 2017 under the programme. The Holy Family Community College in Rathcoole is to get an extension and this will proceed to construction in 2016.
"Not only will the improvements to school buildings benefit local pupils by ensuring they are educated in modern school buildings but it will also benefit the local construction industry.
"Despite the obvious financial challenges of the last few years, Labour in Government have delivered the largest ever school investment programme in the history of the State, and I am pleased that Dublin Mid West is benefitting in a significant way from that."
