Kelly welcomes partial restoration of bus services at Elphin.

Issued : Tuesday 30 October, 2012

Senator John Kelly has welcomed the semi row-back by Bus Eireann on Bus
Services into and out of Elphin. Kelly is personally thrilled that his own intense
lobbying of Minister Alan Kelly on this issue has seen some fruition.
Senator Kelly had outlined in detail to Minister Kelly, the calamitous situation that would
have ensued, travel-wise, for the people of Elphin if the services were to be withdrawn
as proposed. The Ballaghaderreen based Senator said that the statement
issued by Bus Eireann on Tuesday 30th Oct, outlined their intention to provide
a bus service to and from Elphin on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Bus Eireann's statement went on to further outline that, "These services will
connect Elphin to Strokestown, where connections can be made with the
Expressway Route 22 Ballina-Longford-Dublin service. These services are in
addition to the current Route 451 Ballina-Charlestown-Longford Friday service
from Elphin to Longford and return. There will also be two services between
Elphin and Carrick-on-Shannon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Customers can connect to the Bus Eireann Route 23 Sligo-Dublin Expressway
service at Carrick-on-Shannon.
Senator Kelly concluded by saying that while these services were subject to approval by the
National Transport Authority, he was confident it would happen and was pleased that reason
had been listened to by his party colleague, Minister of State Alan Kelly.
