Medical Card Holders should visit their local CWO says Senator Kelly
Issued : Wednesday 5 September, 2012
Senator John Kelly has stated that the recent decision by the HSE, to no longer
reimburse deserving patients for gluten-free products, is a regrettable one.
It is regrettable for two reasons, according to Kelly, firstly the inconvenience that will
most certainly be caused to those directly affected, and secondly, the fact that not
a lot of money will be saved by this action. He maintained that the patients who will
be affected are those on Medical Cards, Drugs Payments Schemes and those on the
Long-Term Illness scheme.
Senator Kelly, himself a former Community Welfare Officer, went on to say that Coeliacs
who have Medical Cards, should visit their CWO's and request a Diet Supplement Payment.
why introduce it in the first place if you have to reimburse most of those
affected, through the CWO facility. The Ballaghaderreen based Senator concluded that, as
affected, through the CWO facility. The Ballaghaderreen based Senator concluded that, as
most Medical Card holders had no savings, these would be entitled to get something back,
it appeared a badly thought out way to save money, seeing as it more than likely won't.
A lot of Medical Card holders may be entitled to this, so much so, added Kelly, that it begs the question,- Ireland Midlands North West : Roscommon / Galway : Castlerea
