Roscommon gets over €800,000 for new housing units
Issued : Thursday 15 August, 2013
Labour Senator John Kelly has stated that the new housing provision units allocations, announced by Minister Jan O'Sullivan, were a positive step, and he welcomed the specific amount of units being sanctioned for each local authority.
This extra funding, according to Kelly, will go to providing new homes to families who have been identified as having special housing needs, for example, a child with a disability or overcrowding issues. He went on to say that due to an identified underspend in the Departmet's budget, €32 million was now going to be allocated nationally, with Roscommon specifically getting €824,075 to spend on eight new housing units.
Senator Kelly said that all of these units would be completed this year, and that they were crucial for people with a disability to be able to live independently in the community. In conclusion, he applauded the efficient management of resources at Minister O'Sullivan's department that led to this extra allocation of monies, that are to be steered specifically towards helping people with physical or intellectual disabilities.
