Monday 14th community Protest against the Poolbeg Incinerator

Issued : Sunday 13 December, 2009

Work will commence on Monday 14th December to build a 600,000 tonnes Incinerator on the Poolbeg Peninsula in Ringsend.  The Incinerator has been opposed by the local community and all Public Representatives in the area.

Speaking before construction starts Cllr Humphreys said “This project has not got the support of the elected City Council or the Minister for the Environment yet this has been pushed through by unelected officials.  If the Minister is serious about the reform of Local Government this is the obvious place to start.

Even at this late stage I am appealing to the Minister to instruct the City Manager to stop the building of the Incinerator as this will undermine the strategy of reducing, reusing and recycling of waste”.

Local Community are protesting against the start of construction on Monday 14th December at 5.30pm on Sean Moore Road.

“There are still many questions to be answered about the viability of this project and whether

it has fulfilled all conditions specified by Bord Pleanala.

This community stands united against another costly, foolish and untested plan to build an Incinerator in the Poolbeg Peninsula and the Labour Party stands with them”. Said Cllr Kevin Humphreys
