Major investment in the future of the Irish economy
Labour in Government launched a capital investment plan in 2012 worth €17 billion in 2012, and in 2015, we launched a follow-up, six-year plan worth €42 billion.
So far, Labour has invested in building 84 new schools, 80 new primary care centres, launching the largest social housing programme in the history of the State and the delivery of high speed broadband to more than 700,000 homes.
Our plan for the next five years:
- Create a €1 billion Green Infrastructure Fund for investment in clean public transport, renewable energy research and home energy efficiency
- Prioritise greater funding for infrastructural projects if economic growth continues to exceed expectations. Our priorities will be to commence the Cork-Limerick motorway, complete the A5 roadworks, bring forward Metro North and expand the system of flood defence works
- Oversee the €42 billion capital plan to end the use of prefabs in schools, deliver 110,000 social housing units and complete the National Children's Hospital
- Invest more in schools, third-level institutions, training and upskilling to ensure a highly-skilled worforce
