900 trees to be replaced in Shannon, says Michael McNamara TD
Issued : Monday 23 February, 2015
A major tree planting programme is to begin in Shannon next week following months of campaigning by Clare TD Michael McNamara.
Deputy McNamara said he was delighted that the damaged and broken tress removed from the town following last winter’s storms, are finally to be replaced.
“Work will being on planting 900 trees from next week. I have worked to have the trees replaced since I was first made aware of the extensive storm damage in the area,” said the Labour TD.
“Unfortunately the matter was not sufficiently addressed up to now. I have raised the issue continuously with the Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin, and the CEO of Clare County Council Tom Coughlan, and I have also been in continuous contact with the Department of the Environment on the issue.
“I am delighted that the trees are finally being replaced after all this time,” he said.
