Lyons welcomes major jobs boost for DCU Alpha
9 December 2015
Labour TD John Lyons has welcomed the announced expansion of the DCU innovation campus facility in Glasnevin, which will result in the creation of 450 new jobs over the next three years.
Speaking on today’s announcement, local Labour TD John Lyons said, “DCU Alpha now intends to increase the number of businesses it supports from 30 to 100, which is more than double the amount envisaged in the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs in 2013.
“Today’s announcement is an extremely positive development for the community and for DCU’s growing reputation as Ireland’s university of enterprise. The plans indicate that the number of those employed at the laboratory and industrial research facility will increase from 350 to 800 between now and 2018.
“I am also pleased to see that new measures brought in by the Action Plan for Jobs to support entrepreneurs and start-ups have been successful, as two-thirds of all new jobs at the facility are to be created by start-ups in their first five years of existence.
“As Vice-Chairperson of the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, it is hugely encouraging to see that the approach of the Action Plan for Jobs is working and the benefits are reaching our local area.”
“The graduate talent and key researchers in DCU have been crucial to the next phase of this development, along with the key support provided by the Department of Jobs.”
