EBAY decision a major blow for Louth

25 August 2016

The decision by eBay to close its operation in Dundalk is a major blow to the town and to the region.

The facility will cease operations next year with the expected loss of 150 jobs.

My immediate thoughts are with those who work in the facility in the town and their families at this very difficult time.

I have been assured that as PayPal expands that Ebay staff will be prioritised for roles in that organisation.

In terms of the consultation process with staff, it is important that this is a fruitful process and that the contribution the Dundalk workforce have made to the company is properly recognised.

It is important over the next few months that every support possible is provided to the EBay staff in Dundalk by the company in terms of accessing alternative employment and training if requested and required by the staff who have been loyal to the organisation since its establishment in the region.
