CONSULTATION MUST HAPPEN ON AN POST LEGISLATION

Labour Party Communications Spokesperson Seán Sherlock TD has raised concerns on the possible increase in cost to individuals and businesses right around the country following Minister Denis Naughten’s decision to review legislation on the cost of the postal service.

“Minister Naughten needs to consult widely with small and medium businesses on the potential increased costs this legislation will have.

“Engaging just a group of consultants is not enough.

“The Minister must engage directly with businesses in towns and cities across the country.

“There are issues with An Post’s viability that should be looked at and engaged, with but the cost to the rural Post Office network must be considered.

“For the Minister to announce this right before An Post’s busiest postal season will be an area of concern for business owners who are looking to budget ahead for the first two quarters of 2017.

“We need the Minister to commit to a series of engagements with the public on this and a public consultation must happen.”
