GOVERNMENT PLAN WON’T SOLVE SOARING RENTS IN DUBLIN

13 December 2016

Labour Party spokesperson for Dublin, Senator Kevin Humphreys has slammed the proposals to limit rents as too little too late.

“The proposals from the Government today to allow rent increases of 4% a year are eight times the rate of inflation.

“The Labour Party has published legislation that is to be voted on this week in the Dáil that would limit rent increases to the rate of inflation, and provide for a reference index of rents for areas, under the RTB.

“The complex system being proposed by Minister Coveney will be incredibly difficult to administer.

“The average monthly rent in Dublin is already over €1,300 a month. Adding 4% to that a year will gouge the ordinary person trying to keep a roof over their heads.”
