HUMPHREYS WELCOMES ROWBACK BY RTÉ ON KID’S TV

Labour Party spokesperson on Dublin, Senator Kevin Humphreys has welcomed the decision by RTÉ to continue making children’s TV programmes.

“It is really welcome news that RTÉ have come to an agreement with the RTÉ Trade Union Group and found the money to continue producing children’s TV shows in 2017.

“Like many I was taken aback that RTÉ wanted to close the Young People’s Department. Back in November I contacted the Chair of the Oireachtas Communications Committee to ask that RTÉ management be brought in to explain the decision.

“The decision taken today by RTÉ is the right one and means children can continue to enjoy the great in-house domestically produced programming that has entertained generations of Irish children.

“I hope they will now seek a long term solution not just for 2017, so that children’s programming will continue to made in-house for many years to come.”
