Commuters asked to foot the bill again.

Senator Mark Wall

Labour Councillor for Kildare South, and General Election Candidate, Mark Wall, has criticised the 8% increase to parking fee at train stations as just another blow to commuters in Kildare.

Commenting today Cllr. Wall said:

“The increase in car parking fee wholly unacceptable.

“This year we are due to increases to fairs, and the new timetable has seen shortened trains on certain routes. Commuters already pay almost €1500 per annum for an annual short hop ticket and are now being asked to fork out €250 for parking. This is a €20 increase on the annual parking costs from last year.

“These increases in the cost of accessing Irish Rail services, coupled with the increase in overcrowding we have seen in recent years on board trains both serve as disincentives for commuters.

“I hope that Irish Rail reconsiders these increases and recognise that they are being unfair to loyal annual ticket holders.”
