McCabe has served with dedication and commitment

Labour Party Leader Brendan Howlin TD has thanked Sgt Maurice McCabe for his dedicated public service, and wished him well in retirement.

Deputy Howlin said:

“Maurice McCabe has served An Garda Síochána and the public with dedication and commitment which never wavered in the face of personal cost.

“I want to wish Maurice and his family an enjoyable and fulfilling retirement. After years of working to reform the organisation of which he has been a member for three decades, Sgt. Maurice McCabe deserves his retirement and privacy. I also wish his wife and children for whom the last few years must have been very trying, all the best in the years to come.

“The Disclosures Tribunal has helped draw a line under the controversies of recent years and shone a light on what was a ‘campaign of calumny’ against him, and the urgent need for reforms in our police force. It is important that we do not let the opportunity it presents pass us by.

“Maurice McCabe had the bravery to speak truth to power. I hope that the legacy left by Sgt. McCabe has empowered others within the force to feel their voice deserves to be heard. Sgt. McCabe represents the best An Garda Síochána has to offer.

“I thank him for his service, and wish him well.”
