Take an Irish Stand on St Patrick’s Day
Senator Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has today announced that the ‘Irish Stand’ will renew its anti-racism campaign on St Patrick’s Day with a vigil at the Famine Memorial in Dublin at 3pm.
He will be joined by playwright Lisa Tierney-Keogh and poet Erin Fornoff as they take a stand in solidarity with immigrants everywhere.
As events are held across the world to celebrate the Irish diaspora, this ‘Irish Stand’ against racism is to show solidarity with immigrants everywhere. In the United States, hypocritical celebrations will be held to honour Irish immigrants while the Trump administration declares a national emergency to denigrate immigrants.
Sen. Ó Ríordáin said:
“The Famine Memorial is a poignant reminder to Irish people of our history as immigrants. For Irish-Americans to support Donald Trump and his racist anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies, is a denial of their own history. As the Taoiseach presents the American President with a bowl of shamrock, we will take a stand against racism in Dublin.”

Irish Stand is a grassroots movement devoted to civil rights protection for all immigrants and was inspired by Ó Ríordáin’s viral speech condemning Donald Trump’s racism which has over 50million views worldwide.
