Hannigan To Pedal Off on ‘Bike the Border’ Tour

08 March 2019

On Saturday 9th March, Labour Party Euro candidate for Midlands North West, Dominic Hannigan, will kick off his ‘Bike the Border’ tour.

Over the weekend Dominic will travel from Omeath in Co. Louth to Clones in Co. Monaghan by bike and on to Cavan.

Mr Hannigan said:

“I grew up close to the border and know only too well the social and economic benefits that the free flow of people and trade has brought in recent years. With just three weeks to go to the Tories’ Brexit deadline all that progress hangs in the balance.

“During my cycling tour I hope to highlight how critical these next weeks are to our border communities and how they need support to cope with the outcome of a Tory Brexit.

“Much of the discussion about the border, particularly in Dublin, focuses on trade.  However, this is just one aspect of the crisis we face.

“Every day thousands of ordinary people going about their lives criss-cross the border. Sports teams, cultural organisations – the lifeblood of our communities – cross the border every day. On my tour I’ll be meeting these people and hearing their concerns about our uncertain future.

Dominic will be posting live updates on Facebook and updating Twitter and Instagram regularly.

“I’m looking forward to the trip.  I cycled the length of the Danube once so I think my legs will last the course and I’m looking forward to hearing directly from the people whose lives will be most impacted by the Tories Brexit madness.”
