CervicalCheck IT glitch adds to anxiety

12 July 2019

Commenting on the CervicalCheck IT glitch, Labour Party Health spokesperson, Alan Kelly TD said:

“How many ways can one screening programme cause so much undue stress and anxiety among Irish women?

“It is completely unfortunate that an IT glitch of this scale happened in the wake of the CervicalCheck screening programme but the question needs to be asked as to why proper checks and balances weren’t in place to ensure women were getting results.

“It should not have taken months for the labs to realise that this glitch had occurred, yet again we have seen that it has been the women who are anxiously waiting for answers who have had to fight for information.

“We need to know now the precise scale of this issue. I’ll be asking the Minister and HSE to find out the exact number of women impacted and what system controls can be put in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
