Day 18 - Labour blogging roundup
Posted on May 16, 2007 at 10:29 AM
First up in this round-up of Labour bloggers, our finance spokespeson Joan Burton talks about our changing lifestyles and how it affects canvassing. She also talks about meeting an elderly woman who is on the list for eye treatment and has received an appointment for April 2008.
She says: "That lady should not be put through such an ordeal for something so simple as eye treatment. We need a change and it's coming."
Our deputy leader Liz McManus has some thoughts on election posters: "The children that I'm meeting at the doorsteps are very excited to be meeting someone (a live person!) from the posters. This must be something to do with the power of TV that has trained young eyes towards visual images. Or maybe it is the celebrity culture that gets them excited. When it comes to the adults, who have a vote, posters have minimal effect."
A member of her campaign team Ian posts about his recent experience in A&E:
"Three days later I returned to the same A and E department for a wound check. Patients were being told - "there are no beds in the hospital" - the corridors of the A and E were full of patients on trolleys.
This country clearly needs Labour in Government to deliver the clear commitment of 2300 more beds in cleaner hospitals."

Eamon and Mr Tayto
Meanwhile in Carlow/Kilkenny Michael O'Brien talks about a brush with the candidate lots of people are talking about, Mr Tayto. He also includes a photograph of Mr Tayto with our own Eamon Gilmore. Scrolling down he also has a pic of Lance Armstrong with a hurl made by Dowling's of Patricks street in Kilkenny City.
Dominic Hannigan blogs about his recent canvas on the battle bus with Pat as well as Labour's plan to introduce a flat fare of €1 Dublin, as well as Ratoath, Dunshaughlin and Ashbourne to Dublin.
Eric Byrne posts the latest of his YouTube videos on health, you can watch it here and also blogs about how the Tenters in Dublin got it's name.
Finally Harry Barrett in Mayo has, like all our other candidates dropped in his nomination paper and talks about taking action to stop population decline.
