A New Deal for Ireland - Labour Conference 2008

This weekend sees Labour's 63rd National Conference which is being held in Kilkenny. Once again we have planned a range of online activities and events which will bring the conference to you even if you are not one of the 1200 delegates coming to Kilkenny.

Among this conference's key moments during the weekend is the Leader's speech on Saturday evening, as well debates on finance, social and family affairs and agriculture among others.

There will be also be a presentation of the Jim Larkin Thirst for Justice award made posthumously to the late Susie Long which will be accepted by her husband Conor McLiam. Life long members of the party will be awarded with long service awards and Michael Farrell (representative of the Civil Rights Commemorative Committee) to mark the 40th anniversary of the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Movement.

Live streaming of conference
Last year's web streaming of the conference proved to be very popular and you can catch all the debates on Ustream including the Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore's keynote speech on Saturday evening. Labour is the first and only political party in Ireland broadcasting our conference in this way and last year's streaming was a huge success.

Q&A with key spokespeople
Over the next day or two we are asking you to submit your questions to Deputy Leader Joan Burton, Spokesperson on Finance, Deputy Roisin Shortall, Spokesperson on Social and Family Affairs and Senator Alex White, Spokesperson on Children and Leader of the Labour group in the Seanad. You can put your question to them in the comments below and keep an eye out for their response which will be posted on the conference website and on our You Tube channel.
