Getting to college will be a lot simpler for students with news that the National Transport Authority is to integrate the Leap Card with the student travelcard. As part of the Labour Party's plan to join the dots on Ireland's public transport system - this new integrated card will take the hassle out of having two cards, and hopefully encourage more students to make the 'Leap' to public transport.

Coming at no extra card, the new card will be available to all third level college students. Making the announcement, Public and Commuter Transport Minister Alan Kelly said, "This will make public transport more attractive to students. There is no additional charge for having a Leap card as part of your student travelcard and it can be used right across the public transport system within the Greater Dublin Area. It will give potentially 50,000 students or so easy access to all forms of public transport in Dublin.

"The Leap card is already being used by almost 130,000 people generating 7.3 million journeys. The student travelcard is another important addition to the 'Leap' products with more to come in the following months."

Not only eliminating the need for correct change, student travelcard holders can now also benefit from discounted pay-as-you-go savings, that the Leap card offers on Dublin Bus, Luas, DART and Commuter Rail journeys in the Dublin area. Students can simply top up their student travelcard at one of the over 400 Payzone Leap Card outlets, Luas and Irish Rail ticket machines and on-line.
