Safer Internet Day

Posted on February 05, 2013 at 05:06 PM

Today is the 10th Safer Internet Day which was established to raise awareness about safe and responsible use of Internet technologies especially among children and young people. Minister Ruairi Quinn, following on the launch of the Action Plan on Bullying last week, helped launch the ‘Watch Your Space’ media campaign. The campaign focuses on cyber bullying and is targeted at young people.

Minister Quinn said he was delighted to support the campaign and promote the key campaign messages. “Tackling bullying requires support from wider society and is not a problems schools, parents and children themselves can solve along. “

Minister Quinn said that while home factors play a substantial role in the prevention of bullying, the role of the school in preventative work is crucial and should not be underestimated. “That is why the Action Plan on Bullying has committed to ensuring new national anti-bullying procedures are in place by next September.”

If you're on Twitter Watch Your Space has been tweeting tips and links on tackling cyber bullying do check them out - you can also watch the video made to highlight the campaign. Please do think of sharing the video on your Facebook and Twitter accounts.
