Irish €16.2 Billion exporting success

Ireland’s export markets continue to go from strength to strength with news that in 2012 over €16.2 billion worth of goods where exported from our shores.

Surpassing the €15.2bn record set in 2011 by Enterprise Ireland client companies, the 2012 figures have set a new record. Products from the Engineering, Software, Internationally Traded Services and Medical Devices sectors made up the majority of the exports, and reports show that there has been strong trade with the USA, as well as with countries in Asia Pacific and South America.

With the world economy predicted to grow slightly in 2013, it’s hoped that Ireland will be best placed to capitalise on this, and even further increase our export footfall across the globe.

Speaking at the announcement by Enterprise Ireland today, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said: “Developing new business in High Growth Economies while also remaining strong in our core markets is vital for the recovery of the Irish economy. Enterprise Ireland clients have demonstrated tremendous resilience in winning record sales in these markets. I witnessed this myself when leading the Enterprise Ireland Trade Mission to Turkey within the past fortnight and I look forward to continue working with them on trade missions and key international activities in 2013 and beyond.”
