Labour Women annual conference 2014

Labour Women annual conference took place in the Mansion House on Saturday February 1st. Although the main business of the day was motions and the election of a new executive, we also had panel discussions and several very special guests. This year we also used a “Twitter Wall’ for the first time and the whole conference was live tweeted by executive member Catherine Rotte Murray. This years conference was generously hosted by Lord Mayor Oisin Quinn who welcomed delegates to the Mansion House and highlighted our excellent record in terms of selecting women candidates for the upcoming local elections.

Youth Guarantee Implementation plan announced

Today Minister Joan Burton and Minister Ruairi Quinn launched the Youth Guarantee Implementation plan which will see approximately Guarantee offers made to approximately 30,000 young people at the highest risk of long-term unemployment this year.

The aim of the EU-Wide guarantee is to provide young people under the age of 25 with a good quality offer of employment, continued education, an apprenticeship or a traineeship within a short time of becoming unemployed.

The implementation plan will see the Government launch a dedicated drive to provide the work, training and education opportunities that young jobseekers need. The plan details how the youth Guarantee will be implemented over the course of this year and next.
