Standing up for families

Labour in government has been standing up for families to make sure that every family benefits from the economic recovery. Today the Tánaiste Joan Burton with Deputy Ciara Conway launched a video which is being used in advertising on Facebook and YouTube with the theme "Standing Up for Families'. The video demonstrates how families are beginning to feel the benefits of the economic recovery through a simple slice-of-life scenario of a couple (Michael and Lorraine) being able to afford to attend a major concert for the first time in a number of years.

The Tánaiste Joan Burton said: “The video we launched this afternoon demonstrates that families across the country are beginning to feel the economic recovery in their everyday lives and now have some additional income for discretionary expenditure. Labour is determined to keep on delivering for working families but to do so we must have a government that continues the job of economic recovery while ensuring the emphasis is on fairness for low and middle income families only the Labour Party can provide those vital elements of stability and balance.”

Deputy Ciara Conway said the experience of the family in the video is indicative of what she is hearing on the doors in her own constituency of Waterford.

"Families have been through a tough time recovering from the damage Fianna Fail and the Greens inflicted on our economy. Now that the economy is growing and jobs are being created, living standards are also improving for families.”
