Posted on December 02, 2015 at 09:01 AM

Last night Deputy Joanna Tuffy, Cllr Pamela Kearns and Cllr Mick Duff held a public meeting in the Red Cow Hotel on the Living Wage. The Panel included David Begg, Director of TASC; Susie McGowan of the Justice for Clerys Workers Campaign and Peter Byrne from the South Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

David Begg spoke about the history of the Living Wage Campaign in Ireland how the real tangible difference a Living Wage can make to families and the economy. Susie McGowan spoke about the campaign the Clerys workers are running with SIPTU and the realities of being a retail worker in Ireland and the difference a Living Wage would make to her life if introduced. Peter Byrne from the South Dublin Chamber spoke about the practicalities of introducing a Living Wage from an employer’s perspective.

Our two candidates for Dublin South-West Cllrs Pamela Kearns and Mick Duff also contributed to the debate. Cllr Kearns spoke about how workers need to feel dignity and pride at work and how introducing a Living Wage would give workers a sense of pride. Cllr Duff said that the Living Wage is a necessity for workers.
