A few words from our Donegal South West byelection candidate Cllr Frank McBrearty

Since getting elected to Donegal County Council last summer, I have worked every day to try and improve the lives of Donegal people. Everything I have done and said in that time, and indeed during this by election campaign, has been aimed at standing up for Donegal. During the boom years, Donegal was a forgotten county. I believe that only Labour can change that attitude during the tough years ahead.

Over the weekend the labour leader Eamon Gilmore was in Donegal to lend a hand to Cllr Frank McBrearty's byelection campaign. After finishing RTE's Saturday view Frank and his team headed off to Annagry where they were joined by deputies Jack Wall, Emmet Stagg and Joe Costello. Next up on the canvassing schedule was the Glenties electoral area with party stalwart Seamus Rogers.

With the Donegal South-West byelection finally called for November 25th, our candidate Cllr Frank McBrearty Jnr has already begun his campaign in earnest.

"Doesn't Donegal deserve better? I want to continue my fight for justice, so that the people of Donegal are not bottom of the queue when it comes to the creation of jobs, provision of health services, and proper educational facilities for our children," Frank has said.

Government forced to announce bye-election

Forced to announce the Donegal South-West bye-election after an 18-month vacancy, it is time now for the Government to call a general election so that people can give a mandate to a new Government, a strong stable Government, which can deal with the country's economic crisis, the Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore TD told the Dail today.

"The Tanaiste did not utter one sentence to explain why the bye-elections are not being held in the other three constituencies.

Today we launched our Dublin Central by-election campaign with Party Leader Eamon Gilmore TD, Deputy Leader Joan Burton TD, our Dublin Central TD Joe Costello and our candidate Senator Ivana Bacik.

Eamon told the assembled journalists that Dublin Central is one of the strongest Labour constituencies in Dublin with a strong Labour tradition.
