CE Schemes must be protected, says Keaveney

CE [Community Employment] schemes must be protected and in excess of €315m has been allocated to them for 2012, Colm Keaveney TD has told the Dáil.

He was speaking during a Dáil debate held this week.

"While the reforms to CE schemes may have been brought about by economic necessity, it has given us a great opportunity to ensire that the schemes suit the needs of both the community and the scheme participants," Deputy Keaveney said.

Under the reforms, he explained, each sponsoring body or committee will be asked to properly cost a business case for the funds they receive. Schemes will also be encouraged to collectively come together and negotiate rate for things such as overheads and bank charges.

Labour turn the heat up on Sinn Féin

Speaking on the Dáil motion on the sale of a minority stake in the ESB, Labour deputies highlighted the utter hypocrisy of Sinn Féin.

In typical Sinn Fein 'doublespeak' they claim that this proposed minority sale, which we are committed to by way of a sovereign commitment in the EU/IMF deal, will result in the State losing its majority ownership of ESB. This is utter nonsense and is deliberately attempting to mislead the public.
