Posted on March 19, 2013

This morning we were in Meath East with our byelection candidate Cllr Eoin Holmes and Senator Ivana Bacik launching our Marriage Equality Bill.
Download the wording of the Bill from here.
The Civil Registration (Marriage Equality) Bill will remove a specific reference to gender from the legislation that faciltiates civil marriages.
Speaking about the Bill Cllr Eoin Holmes said: "Gay and lesbian people in Ireland have been to the fore in bringing about social change through their courage in coming forward and bring true to themselves." He called on voters in the Meath East byelection to vote for a 'more modern, liberal and tolerant Ireland' by giving their support to Labour.

Senator Bacik launches Oireachtas cyclists group
Posted on July 12, 2012

Senator Ivana Bacik got on her bike today to launch a new All-Party Oireachtas Cyclists Group. The group will encourage all parliamentarians to leave their cars at home and cycle to work.
In tandem with the Government's Smarter Travel policy which aims to have 10% of all commuting trips carried out by bike nationally in Ireland by 2020, the All-Party Oireachtas Cyclists Group hopes to encourage people to cycle, by tackling issues which may prevent nervous cyclists from making the journey.
Senator Bacik said, "The reason why many people do not cycle is because they are concerned about the experience of cycling in congested traffic and do not have the cycling skills to cycle safely in urban areas."
