Government accepts all recommendations of Quirke report

Minister Kathleen Lynch

Minister Kathleen Lynch today announced the Magdalene redress fund, which will provide compensation for women who worked in the Magdalene laundries. This comes after the publication of the Quirke Report, which made recommendations for the best means of compensating the Magdalene women.

Labour stands ready to legislate

Last night Minister of State Kathleen Lynch spoke in the Dáil about the publication of the Expert Group report on the A, B and C v Ireland judgement saying that Labour stands ready to legislate. I wish to thank Deputy Daly and her colleagues for raising this important matter in the Dáil and for their valuable work in attempting to frame this complex legal and medical issue in a legislative proposal.

Launching our Children's Referendum campaign - Children should be seen and heard

Today we launched our Children's Referendum campaign which is asking people to vote Yes on November 10th.

Speaking at the launch, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said: "It is our tragedy, as a nation, that some of the darkest moments in our history are a direct consequence of children's interests, and children's right to be cared for and protected, being ignored. This referendum is our opportunity to right that wrong. To state clearly and unequivocally that we, the Irish people, value children and childhood."

Minister Kathleen Lynch on the Government's first year

This evening we talked to Minister Kathleen Lynch, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Department of Justice, Equality & Defence about her first year in office. You can see what she said in the accompanying video.

Yesterday we spoke to the Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore about the first year of the Government, which you can still view here, and over the next week we will be talking to more Labour ministers about the first year and their plans for the future so do keep an eye out for them.

Kathleen Lynch TD Minister of State for Disability, Equality, Mental Health and Older People and Geraldine Burke, Chairperson Pieta House Cork at 4.30am to take part in Darkness into Light 2011.

Darkness into Light 2011 was a 5k charity walk to raise funds for Pieta House, the only major voluntary organisation in the country providing professional and therapeutic services to those who may be contemplating suicide or self-harming.

The event also took place across the country in six locations: Phoenix Park Dublin, Limerick, Galway, Clare and Kerry.
