Senator Lorraine Higgins’s nomination as Labour’s Midlands/North West European candidate got off to a flying start, as she was formally selected in Mullingar yesterday. (You can see photographs from yesterday's event from our Flickr account.)

Speaking to a packed room full of supporters, Lorraine reiterated that she is in the race to win it. Relatively new to politics, Lorraine reminded the crowd that it was the shambolic situation created by Fianna Fail which led to her decision to make a stand and enter politics.

Senator Lorraine Higgins writes about her petition to Ulster Bank

Today I brought my campaign for customer compensation to Ulster Bank HQ, and delivered a cross party petition calling for the bank to waive all customer charges until January 2013. Ever since this so -called 'glitch' happened over three weeks ago, thousands of customers and businesses have been directly impacted, with many still unable to access their own money directly.

A vote for the Treaty is a vote for economic stability

"We must be mindful of the fact that at the very core of its title is the word 'stability'. This must resonate with each and every one of us who have craved this in previous politically and financially insecure times... Restoring stability to the euro is a critical step in removing ourselves from our current predicament. The Treaty will be play a crucial part in realising that objective," Senator Lorraine Higgins told the Seanad this week during the debate on the Stability Treaty.

"A vote for the treaty will be a vote for economic stability and economic recovery. Irrespective of that, the train is leaving the station and Ireland must be on it. A Yes vote is a vote for a better future."
