Seanad Election count underway

The count is well underway in the Seanad Éireann elections and here's a quick update from our Director of Elections Deputy Joe Costello on the results so far.

We'll keep you posted on results as we get them here, you can also follow Cllr Emer Costello on Twitter who is tweeting the results as they come in.

Elected:

James Heffernan topped the poll in the Agricultural panel, you can read more in the Limerick Leader.

John Gilroy, Educational and Cultural panel, read more in the Examiner.

Susan O'Keeffe, Agricultural Panel

EDIT: April 28th - 11am

Late last night Marie Moloney and John Whelan were elected to the Labour Panel. Counting is now continuing for the Industrial Panel.

The first result of the Seanad election is in

FINAL UPDATE: 5.00pm, Thursday, July 26th, 2007

The counts are finished and the results are in. We are delighted with our new team in the Seanad and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them on their results. The elections mean that we are now enjoying the biggest Parliamentary Labour Party since 1992. Well done to everyone and their teams and in particular to Deputy Joe Costello who was the Director of Elections.

Our new team in the Seanad is:

Alex White, Alan Kelly, Phil Prendergast, Michael McCarthy, Dominic Hannigan and Brendan Ryan.

Seanad Elections

Labour is proposing a number of candidates to contest the Seanad Eireann elections on a number of panels, including the Cultural and Educational Panel, Adminstrative Panel, Industrial and Commercial Panel, Agricultural Panel and the Labour Panel.

Our candidates are:

Cultural and Educational Panel - Councillor Alex White
Adminstrative Panel - Brendan Ryan
Industrial and Commercial Panel - Councillor Dominic Hannigan
Agricultural Panel - Alan Kelly
Labour Panel - Councillor Eric Byrne, Councillor Phil Prendergast

We are also supporting the re-election of Senator Brendan Ryan to the NUI panel. You can read more about his campaign here
