Have your say on the future of South Park
Issued : Tuesday 21 June, 2016
Galway City Councillor Niall McNelis urges members of the public to attend a public consultation on the future of South Park, and how it can be redeveloped into a major new public park and amenity for Galway city
The public consultation event takes place on Wednesday June 29 in the Fr Griffin’s Dressingrooms, South Park, from 2pm to 4.30pm.
In 2008, the Galway City Council’s Recreation & Amenity Needs Strategy identified the need for a new public park to be located in South Park, a view adopted as policy in the Galway City Development Plans and local area plans.
Cunnane Stratton Reynolds - Landscape Architects & Town Planners have been employed by the council to undertake a review and design exercise, leading to a 'Framework Plan’ for the new park that will "seek to deliver a coherent and logical vision for the overall design of a major new public parkland facility".
Subsequent phases will include the planning approval process, funding approval, detail design, construction procurement, construction, completion, and long term management.
