Tuohy welcomes €471,950 for water grants

Laois Local Authority is set to get €471,950 under the 2014 Rural Water Programme Block Grant Allocations.

This funding pot will cover both the Group Water and Group Sewerage Schemes, and will go a substantial way in improving water quality and distribution in the county.

Thankfully, the maximum grant per house for the group water schemes is now €7,475 up €1,000 on last year. While this funding is welcome, I believe a strategic overhaul of our water distribution is badly needed and the construction of the Garryhinch Water Project must be fast tracked.

The Garryhinch Reservoir and water project has the capacity to be the country’s most important strategic infrastructural project in decades. Not only would it secure sustainable water supply to the Leinster region but would also create over 1,000 construction jobs over five years.
