€780,000 for Social Housing Units in Wicklow great news - O'Brien

Local election candidate, Paul O'Brien has received confirmation from Minister for Housing, Jan O’Sullivan, of construction of 10 new local authority housing units across the county, which will totals €780,000. The news comes as part of a €68million programme of house building announced by Minister O’Sullivan today.

“I strongly welcome the funding for the development of these sites. There is a strong social housing need in Wicklow, and while this announcement is relatively modest, it sends a strong signal that Labour in government is pressing ahead with local authority house building.

"As part of this investment one Special Needs Unit will be constructed in Roundwood, one at Ard Na Greine Bray, and 8 units in Emoclew, Arklow (Phase 2).

It will also have a jobs dividend, as projects such as Wicklow provide employment for construction workers.

“I commend Minister O’Sullivan for sourcing the funding to enable these projects to go ahead, and I look forward to seeing work start on building of new homes for local families."
