O’Brien congratulates Class of 2015 as Leaving Cert Results are released
Issued : Tuesday 11 August, 2015
Labour Party Councillor, Peter O’Brien has today (Wednesday) congratulated the almost 56,000 Leaving Certificate students who are receiving their results.
“Today is the day that marks an important milestone in many young people’s lives as they complete their Leaving Certificate cycle. Today represents the culmination of many years of hard work and study and I sincerely hope that this will be reflected in the results that are received,” said Cllr. O’Brien.
“I also want to congratulate that several hundred who returned to education and sat their Leaving Certificate through the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme. To return to complete a further course of education requires determination and dedication.”
“Not everyone will be happy with results today but it is very important for students to keep everything in perspective. Those disappointed should sit down over the next few days with their families and friends and discuss the many opportunities that are out there for them. The world doesn’t end with the Leaving Certificate as many people in the workplace will readily tell you.”
“For those going on to third level education, there are an equally wide range of opportunities available in higher education, further education and in many other fields. It is an exciting time for young people and I would urge them to consider their all their options carefully so that they end up pursuing a course that they readily enjoy.”
“I want to alert students to a Leaving Certificate Helpline run by the National Parents’ Council and supported by the Department of Education. Through this service qualified guidance counsellors will give advice and support to both students and their parents. The helpline phone number is 1800 265 165 and it will open at 10am, Wednesday 12 August. It will operate until Wednesday 19 August.”
“Finally I wish the class of 2015 the very best of luck in whatever next steps you take. The Leaving Certificate is very much a milestone but it also just the first step on the road to adulthood and the friendships and supports that were there during secondary school will last a lifetime,” said Cllr. O’Brien.
“There is every reason for the Class of 2015 to be optimistic with the Irish economy continuing to improve and recover,” added Cllr. O’Brien.
