Cllr Peter O’Brien announces his decision to stand in the Dundrum Local Electoral Area in the 2019 Local Elections.
Issued : Thursday 7 February, 2019
Cllr Peter O’Brien announced his decision to seek election to the Dundrum Local Electoral Area after representing the people of Glencullen-Sandyford for the last five years.
Speaking about his decision to move to a new electoral area, Cllr O’Brien said:
“It has been one of the privileges of my life to have represent the people of Glencullen-Sandyford and my deep gratitude will always remain for the faith they showed in me and my election in 2014.
The Dundrum local electoral area has always had a strong local Labour representative. In the recent past Aidan Culhane gave ten years of sterling service to his local community and more recently with my colleague, Cllr Grace Tallon, who has decided to step down at this coming election.
Grace has made a terrific contribution to the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and, having been selected again by the Labour Party, I want to continue that legacy for my own neighbourhood of Dundrum, in which I was born and reared.
Dundrum is my home ground, it is where I was formed; I went to school in St Olafs National School, my family home is here and much of my voluntary time is spent with either the local scouts or amateur drama groups in the Dundrum Area.
I am delighted to have this opportunity and I look forward to engaging with old neighbours and friends throughout Balally, Dundrum, Ballinteer and Churchtown, and hopefully bring my experience of Council to the benefit of every family throughout the area.”
The Local Elections for the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council will take place in the last week of May this year.
