Issued : Monday 11 May, 2015
Labour Party bye-election candidate, Cllr. Willie Quinn accompanied the Minister for Education at the official opening of the Educate Together National School at Bestfield, Athy Road, Carlow this morning (Monday).
Cllr. Quinn said: “The official opening by Minister O’Sullivan is a further example of the strong commitment by the Labour Party to education, not only in this constituency but throughout the country.”
Cllr. Quinn pointed out that Carlow Educate Together National School was built after a successful three-year campaign from a local parents’ group.
“The building is a purpose-built 8-classroom school and contains 2 support rooms, a staff room and two offices. Each classroom also has internet-access computers and Interactive Whiteboard,” added Cllr. Quinn.
“Both the Minister and I are very supportive of the new and rapidly growing school and I would like to wish the principal, Simon Lewis, staff and pupils every success for the future.”
“Labour has delivered consistently for schools in communities across the country and has continued to do so even in the most difficult and challenging of times. Now that things are looking up again, the funding for new schools that will cater to increased numbers of children is being provided and will continue to be provided by Labour in Government.”
