Labour Women Statement on the the Aja Teehan Hearing today

31 July 2013

Labour Women supports the rights of women in Ireland to determine decisions about their own maternity care.  Speaking earlier today, Chair of Labour Women, Sinead Ahern said, ““Labour Women is watching the case of Aja Teehan with great interest today as she seeks to overturn restrictions imposed by the HSE on women who want to have a home birth.  It is so important that pregnant women and their partners are fully involved in the decisions throughout their maternity care all the way to delivery.   It’s vital that they are fully informed of the options available, the risks attached to each option and that their decisions about their care are listened to and supported with the end goal always being to ensure the safest and best birth outcomes for both healthy babies and mothers.”

Continuing Ahern said,   "We wish Aja and her family the very best of luck today and sincerely hope she receives the care and support she wants and deserves during the remainder of her pregnancy.”
